Pastor Notes

August 22, 2010
Recently, Father Chuck and I attended a workshop on the Roman Missal, Third Edition, which will come into effect on the First Sunday of Advent, 2011. This edition brings us a new translation with some changes from what we have been used to since 1974.
Why the changes? For centuries the Church prayed in Latin. After the Second Vatican Council the liturgical texts were, for the first time, translated into the vernacular. The system used in the translation was a principal known as dynamic equivalence. This approach to translation wanted to convey the overall meaning of the original Latin text, rather than giving a word-for-word translation—an approach known as formal equivalence. Now with the experience of use for many years the Church has sought to improve the English translation of the Latin text.
We will be offering teachings on the Third Edition throughout the coming year in preparation for its implementation on the First Sunday in Advent…
This fall we will participate in a Diocesan-wide increased giving program. This will work well for us as it replaces our own annual increased offertory drive. We pray for its success so that the Lord’s work may continue and increase here at St. Veronica and throughout the Diocese…
We invite you to a Memorial Mass for our beloved Sr. Mary Rosaria, C.R. this coming Saturday morning, August 28th, at 8:00AM.
Have a blessed week!!
